Architecture, Architecture & Light
PolyLester presents their peace pavilion, commissioned by the Southbank Centre for this year’s Festival of Love, titled Arcadia Grandview.
“A heart should be colorful, open and light to let in love, as does the Arcadia Grandview pavilion by PolyLester.”
Connecting three levels of the pedestrian walkway in front of the Royal Festival Hall, an elegant, rudimentary steel structure clad with colorful transparent curtains, creates a majestic bright pavilion.
The many strips of synthetic, industrial curtain compose a volume, much like a lantern or beacon at night and a graceful clear volume in daytime.
The relaxed nature of the strip-curtains invites people to enter the pavilion from every direction, rendering it a true egalitarian structure.
Evoking the agile sensation of stained glass windows in a cathedral, the pavilion pronounces a sacred and devout site, a temple or sanctuary of peace, love and contemplation.
