Void-Non-Void is a light sculpture placed on a wide empty square in the middle of the NDSM-terrein, making both light and darkness a penetrating sensory experience.
In a city filled with light like Amsterdam, darkness is scarce. But at the NDSM-werf, it can still be pretty dark. A dual quality, because she can bring discomfort and fascination at the same time. From the dark shore of the IJ, the NDSM brings you one of the most beautiful views of the city, where you can see thousands of lights sparkle on the other side. Void-Non-Void is an artwork that makes darkness sensible. White light flickers against the inside and the outside of the six by three meters high walls. In the blink of an eye the object changes from a white cube, to a block box, from an empty shell to a filled core and from a blind spot to a penetrating after-image. After the clear light your eyes will glow in the dark for a while.
